Rosie's point of view

Full album on vinyl-Black 140grams. This entire album was composed with vinyl in mind. A beautiful recording and a must have for any instrumental music fan. Record comes with free download card.

This album came about when a close friend of mine asked me to be the caretaker of a lovely early 70's mandocello (This is the largest of the mandolin family which I have tuned to GDGC). I spent the better half of a year composing before heading into the studio to begin the recording process. This was an unusual album for me to create being both the string player and the percussionist on the album. I laid down the guide mandocello track and then begun work on the remaining instruments.

Apart from the mandocello, I have used my beloved mandolin once belonging to my Grandfather, William 'Bill' Stonehouse. This ol' mandolin is over one hundred years old and full of stories and history. When I did the recording I kept his medals in my pocket that he'd won from 1915-17 for whipping everyone's arse on mando' and fiddle. I keep them close to me at all times when calling on the great Gods of creativity. I also used a 1936 Harmony steel string guitar on a couple of tracks and whilst recording overdubs with Chris Toro he threw me an old Strat' to play once or twice.

The drums chosen for the recording were a Descarga medium daholla (Ceramic with stingray skin), Cooperman Tar, Emin Tar, Riq and an old Daf with most of the chains fallen out.

Added to all of these acoustic instruments are some super warm vintage synths and bass played by Chris Toro (Producer).

Rosie's point of view draws on all of my influences both as a melodic and rhythmic musician- It is an original instrumental album. I did the tracking at Echidna studios with Greg Macmillan out in the lush Christmas Hills area tucked away behind Melbourne. In November last year I teamed up with producer Chris Toro, adding the 'gold dust' to the album. Chris used his eclectic collection of vintage amps, rare old mics and synths all thrown in with his incredible skills as an analogue tone- obsessed madman.

Who the heck is Rosie? When I begun recording the demo's at home I would often listen each night to a new harmony, chorus, spontaneous mando' solo and the like. I was also taking in foster dogs at the time and helping rehabilitate them. Rosie was a neurotic, mad, out of control Red Heeler that nobody wanted and was on a red card; we got along like a house on fire. The dogs were always in the kitchen of a night as a captive audience, giving me their point of view with a wag of a tail or a knowing smile.
